About This Site

The Car Parts List is a small, independent site about the car parts and accessories that earn a spot in a home garage: code scanners that tell you why the check engine light is on, jump starters and battery maintainers that keep you from getting stranded, cordless tire inflators, and dash cams. Every guide is written from real driveway use, in plain language, for drivers who would rather understand a problem than pay to have it explained.

Garage and Roadside Safety

Working on a vehicle carries real risk. Never get under a car or truck supported only by a jack; set it on rated jack stands on level, solid ground and chock the wheels. Let the engine, exhaust and cooling system cool before you touch them, and never open a hot radiator cap.

Car batteries can release explosive hydrogen gas and contain corrosive acid. Wear eye protection, keep sparks and flames away, connect and disconnect jump starters and chargers in the order the manufacturer specifies, and never charge a frozen, cracked or swollen battery. Lithium jump starters and power tool batteries should be stored away from extreme heat, including a closed car in summer sun.

Inflate tires only to the pressure printed on the door jamb placard, not the maximum on the sidewall. On the roadside, pull well off the travel lane, use hazard lights and a reflective triangle, and stay clear of traffic. Mount dash cams where they do not block your view, and check local laws on windshield mounting and recording. A code scanner reads fault codes; it is not a diagnosis, and anything involving brakes, steering, airbags or fuel leaks belongs with a qualified technician. Product information on this site is general guidance, not professional automotive advice.
